Overview
Waterborne and acrylic-based adhesives are environmentally friendly, low-VOC, high-performance polymeric bonding systems widely used in packaging, paper converting, woodworking, textile finishing, building materials, and general industrial applications. Their balance of flexibility, adhesion strength, water resistance, and aging stability makes them a preferred modern alternative to solvent-based systems.
Materials & Ingredients
-
Acrylic polymer emulsion (core binder)
-
Defoamer
-
Thickener / Rheology modifier
-
Surfactant
-
Plasticizer (if required)
-
Coalescent agent
-
pH stabilizer (ammonia or AMP-95)
-
Preservative (biocide)
-
Water
Procedure – How to Make Waterborne and Acrylic Based Adhesive
-
Prepare the main mixing tank
Add the required amount of water and begin moderate agitation. -
Add dispersing and wetting agents
Introduce the surfactant and defoamer to stabilize foam and improve flow. -
Introduce the acrylic emulsion
Slowly add the acrylic polymer binder under continuous stirring to prevent coagulation. -
Adjust viscosity & rheology
Add thickener gradually until the target viscosity is achieved. -
Add coalescent and plasticizer (if needed)
These improve film formation, flexibility, and adhesion on non-porous substrates. -
pH adjustment
Use ammonia or AMP-95 to bring the adhesive to the required stability range (typically pH 7–8.5). -
Add preservative
Biocide addition prevents microbial growth during storage. -
Final homogenization
Mix for an additional 10–15 minutes until a uniform, smooth adhesive is achieved. -
Filtration & packaging
Filter the product through a 100–120 mesh sieve and fill into suitable containers.
