Common Types of Repair / Damage‑Repair Shampoos

1. Protein‑/Keratin‑Repair Shampoos

Focus on supplying proteins or keratin derivatives to rebuild the hair fiber. These shampoos aim to repair damage by filling structural gaps in the hair shaft, strengthening weakened strands, and reducing breakage. Often used after chemical treatments, heat styling or mechanical damage.

2. Bond‑Repair / Bond‑Building Shampoos

Formulated to reconnect broken internal bonds (e.g. disulfide bonds) inside hair that occur due to bleaching, coloring, or heat. These shampoos aim to restore structural integrity rather than just surface smoothness. Many modern “damage‑repair” shampoos belong to this group.

3. Moisture‑Repair / Hydration & Reconstruction Shampoos

Designed to restore moisture, lipids, and essential nutrients lost from hair — helpful for dry, brittle, or porous hair. They often include humectants, oils, vitamins, or emollients to rehydrate and soften hair as part of the repair process.

4. Bond‑ + Protein‑Mixed Repair Shampoos

Combine both protein/keratin replenishment and bond-repair (or bond‑strengthening) technologies — aiming for deeper structural repair plus surface strength. Good for severely damaged hair (color-treated, bleached, heat‑styled).

5. Moisture + Strength Repair Shampoos (Balanced Repair)

These shampoos balance moisture replenishment + strengthening agents — useful for hair that is damaged and dry, or hair that loses moisture and becomes brittle after damage. Helps maintain elasticity while restoring structure.

6. Sulfate‑Free / Gentle‑Cleansing Repair Shampoos

For damaged hair, aggressive cleansers (like strong sulfates) can worsen damage by stripping natural oils and weakening structure. Sulfate‑free or mild‑surfactant shampoos clean gently while supporting repair, making them suitable when hair is fragile or after chemical treatments.

7. Color‑Safe Repair Shampoos (for Damaged + Colored Hair)

Combines damage repair with color protection — uses gentle cleansers and repairing actives that do not strip dye, while restoring hair integrity. Ideal for hair both colored and damaged.

8. Bond‑Sealing / Cuticle‑Repair Shampoos

Target the outer hair cuticle and lipid layer (e.g. via lipids, ceramides, or special sealing polymers) to smooth hair surface, reduce porosity, and prevent further damage. Good after mechanical or chemical damage that opened cuticles.

9. Scalp + Fiber Repair Shampoos

Some repair shampoos also include scalp‑healthy ingredients (e.g. vitamins, amino acids) — useful when damage stems from scalp issues (dryness, itching, sebum imbalance) or when aiming to support new growth and overall hair health.

10. Deep-Clean + Detox Repair Shampoos

Used when buildup (products, oils, hard water minerals) worsens damage: these shampoos combine clarifying/detox cleansing with gentle repair / conditioning — cleansing removes damaging residues, while repair agents begin restoration. Useful as periodic “reset” for damaged hair
