1. Overview

Synthetic aerosol spray paint is a solvent-based, resin-modified coating packaged under pressure in an aerosol can and released through a propellant system.
It provides:

  • Fast drying

  • Strong adhesion

  • High gloss or semi-gloss finish

  • Smooth spray pattern

  • Durable protective film

It is widely used for metal, wood, plastic, automotive parts, DIY decoration, and industrial maintenance.

2. Composition

A. Film-Forming Resin (Binder)

The main resin that forms the paint film:

  • Synthetic alkyd resins

  • Modified acrylic resins

  • Nitrocellulose (optional for fast-dry systems)

This determines gloss, durability, hardness, and drying speed.

B. Pigments

Provide color, opacity, and UV resistance:

  • Organic and inorganic color pigments

  • Titanium dioxide for white and opacity

  • Iron oxides for red, yellow, brown

  • Carbon black for black shades

C. Solvents (Volatile Medium)

Control flow, sprayability, drying time, and viscosity:

  • Aromatic hydrocarbons

  • Ketones

  • Esters

  • Alcohols

A balanced solvent blend ensures smooth atomization.

D. Additives

Fine-tunes performance:

  • Flow and leveling additives

  • Anti-skin agents

  • Anti-settling and dispersing agents

  • UV stabilizers

  • Corrosion inhibitors

E. Propellant System

Creates pressure inside the can and atomizes the paint:

  • LPG-based propellant blends (common)

  • Hydrocarbon propellants

  • DME (dimethyl ether)

  • Environment-friendly alternative propellants

F. Optional Additions

Depending on product type:

  • Matte or gloss modifiers

  • Fragrance (rare, optional)

  • Silicone additives for smoother finish

3. Manufacturing Process

The production of synthetic aerosol spray paint begins by dissolving the resin in a controlled solvent blend, followed by dispersing pigments using high-shear mixing until a uniform, smooth paste is achieved. Additives are incorporated to adjust flow, gloss, stability, and drying behavior. Once the paint base becomes fully homogeneous, it is filtered to remove impurities and transferred into the filling system. Empty aerosol cans are pre-checked, filled with the paint concentrate, sealed with valves, and finally charged with the propellant under controlled pressure. Each can is tested for spray quality, leakage, and spray pattern before packaging.

4. Properties of Synthetic Aerosol Spray Paint

  • Fast-drying solvent system

  • Smooth and even atomization

  • Strong adhesion to metal, wood, plastic and coated surfaces

  • High gloss or semi-gloss finish

  • Good hardness and abrasion resistance

  • Weather and scratch resistance

  • Durable color retention

  • Easy application with minimal dripping

5. Applications

  • Metal furniture and machinery

  • Wooden surfaces and DIY craft projects

  • Automotive touch-up

  • Household items and decorative objects

  • Industrial coatings

  • Quick-dry repair and maintenance tasks
