Prepare / Making / How to Make

General production workflow:

  1. Heat the asphalt to the required melting temperature.

  2. Prepare the aqueous phase with water, surfactants, stabilizers.

  3. Use a colloid mill to emulsify asphalt into fine particles.

  4. Adjust viscosity and stability with additives.

  5. Cool and package the adhesive.

Manufacturing Process

A high-shear emulsification process producing a uniform, stable asphalt emulsion suitable for bonding applications.

Formulation

Formulations vary, but typically include:

  • Asphalt

  • Water

  • Emulsifiers (cationic, anionic, or nonionic)

  • Stabilizers / thickeners

  • Anti-foaming agents

  • Optional fillers

Production Process

After asphalt melting and aqueous-phase preparation, the mixture is homogenized under high shear into a stable emulsion, cooled, filtered, and filled.

Properties

  • High adhesion on porous surfaces

  • Water resistance after curing

  • Flexibility

  • Long open time

  • Environmentally friendly (low VOC)

Applications / Usage

Used for:

  • Flooring adhesives

  • Waterproofing membranes

  • Insulation board bonding

  • Road construction layers

  • Protective coatings

Cost

Generally economical due to common raw materials and water-based production.

Types

  • Cationic bitumen emulsion adhesive

  • Anionic bitumen emulsion adhesive

  • Modified polymer-reinforced emulsions

Advantages

  • Easy to apply

  • Strong bonding

  • Water-based, safer than solvent adhesives

  • Flexible performance

SUMMARY

Bitumen (asphalt) emulsion based adhesive is a water-based, eco-friendly bonding material widely used in construction, flooring, and waterproofing applications. Produced by emulsifying molten asphalt into water using surfactants, it offers strong adhesion, flexibility, and low VOC emissions. The manufacturing process involves preparing the aqueous phase, heating asphalt, high-shear emulsification, and final adjustment of viscosity and stability. Its advantages include easy application, cost-effectiveness, and suitability for porous substrates.
